Overview and Job Description
 
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and proactive Junior House Manager/Estate Assistant to join a highly regarded UHNW household based in Barnet, Hertfordshire. This live-in position offers the chance to work closely with a professional Estate Manager and established team across a beautifully maintained estate.
 
The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the main residence, ensuring the home is maintained to the highest standard and is always ready for the principal’s visits and for corporate or private events. 
 
The role is hands-on and varied, combining high-level house management with detailed administrative support to the Estate Manager. You will lead the household staff team, manage rotas, and uphold excellent service and housekeeping standards. You will also be responsible for estate-related administration, vehicle documentation, contractor scheduling, and office support.
 
Role Responsibilities
 
House Management

  • Ensure the security of the house at all times, with staff cover scheduled accordingly
  • Manage household staff rotas, annual leave tracking, and holiday cover
  • Maintain consistently high standards of housekeeping throughout the home
  • Report and oversee repairs and maintenance in conjunction with the Estate Manager
  • Serve in a butler-style capacity at private dinners when required
  • Lay and manage formal and informal table settings
  • Support and liaise with the Housekeeper/Cook on daily meals and food purchasing
  • Monitor stock levels and manage provisions for cleaning, kitchen, and household use
  • Supervise, direct, and support the Housekeeper/Cook, Houseman, Butler, and other support personnel
  • Assist with furniture moving for events and filming when needed
  • Provide cooking support to a high standard when the Housekeeper/Cook is off-duty

Estate Administrative Support

  • General filing of invoices, certificates, vehicle and estate documentation
  • Mail sorting for various departments
  • Manage office supplies, refreshments, and stationery for the Estate Office
  • Oversee vehicle administration: MOTs, tax, servicing reminders, and tracking systems
  • Manage the estate calendar for contractor visits and scheduled works
  • Process and follow up on estate and staff invoices
  • Compile and file credit card receipts and expenses
  • Coordinate First Aid training and staff compliance tracking
  • Organise monthly cross-department briefings and reports
  • Track and pay council tax, land licences, and utilities
  • Update digital and physical records 
  • Provide office cover when needed for the Estate Manager and the admin team
  • Diary coordination, meeting scheduling, and occasional minute-taking

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience as a House Manager or Senior Housekeeper within a private household or estate
  • Confident in managing both hands-on tasks and back-office admin responsibilities
  • High level of discretion, organisation, and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and basic estate systems
  • First Aid training preferred (or willingness to train)
  • Confident cook able to prepare high-standard meals when needed
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Flexible, proactive, and solutions-focused approach
