Achieve Hospitality are delighted to be working with our amazing client in there search for an experienced Sommelier to join their team.
Job Summary
As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for curating and maintaining a diverse wine list, recommending wine pairings, and enhancing our guests’ dining experience. You will work closely with the culinary team to create memorable wine and food pairings and ensure an outstanding wine service.
Key Responsibilities
- Wine Selection & Curation:
Manage and expand our wine list, keeping it updated with new selections and ensuring that it is well-rounded and offers options that appeal to our clientele. Negotiate with wine vendors and suppliers to source wines that meet our quality standards and budget.
- Wine Service:
Provide attentive and knowledgeable wine service to guests, including wine suggestions, pairings, and tastings. Use engaging storytelling to enhance the guest experience and encourage wine sales.
- Staff Training:
Conduct training sessions with the front-of-house staff on wine knowledge and service standards. Ensure the team is well-informed about our wine offerings and capable of making basic recommendations.
- Inventory Management:
Monitor wine stock levels, conduct regular inventory checks, and maintain detailed records. Ensure that the wine cellar is organised and that wines are stored and handled correctly.
- Guest Engagement:
Build relationships with guests and be available to answer questions and make recommendations tailored to their tastes. Provide a warm and welcoming experience that makes guests feel valued.
- Collaboration with Culinary Team:
Work closely with the chef and kitchen team to suggest wine pairings that complement our menu. Coordinate on seasonal menus and special events.
- Event Support:
Assist in organising and hosting wine events, tastings, and dinners. Design pairing menus for special events and enhance the guest experience through thoughtful and engaging wine education.
Qualifications
- Certified Sommelier qualification or equivalent experience in wine service.
- Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varieties, and pairing principles.
- Previous experience in a similar role within a fine dining or upscale environment.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for wine and hospitality.
- Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions
- Full-time, 48-hour working contract, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, and lifting cases of wine as needed.
