Our client is looking for a professional and experienced Stable Manager for their large estate in Hampshire. You will be responsible for overseeing the Stables’s daily operations, managing the schedules, and being switched on with excellent attention to detail.
You will be providing daily support to the horses and stables overseeing their schedules, training new members of staff as well as providing well-rounded care. The role would suit candidates with previous experience working on a yacht and looking for a land-based role.
The Stable Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of a stable and equestrian facility. They ensure the smooth running of the stable, the well-being of the horses, and the satisfaction of the family. The Stable Manager supervises staff, manages facilities and coordinates the care, training and maintenance of horses.
There are five horses in total, all either ex-racehorses (flats) and one dressage (a large Friesian).
Accommodation is provided as a one-bedroom apartment, up an outside flight of stairs. Ideally, candidates will live in however a live-out candidate could be considered if they live within a 10-15 minute radius of the client’s home. Unfortunately, pets and children aren’t able to be accommodated.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the feeding, grooming and overall care of the horses to ensure their health and well-being
- Develop and implement feeding schedules, vaccination protocols and deworming programs
- Monitor horses for signs of illness or injury and arrange for veterinary care when necessary
- Coordinate the scheduling and administration of farrier and dental services
- Maintain accurate records of horse health, medical treatments and vaccinations
- Facility Management
- Maintain and manage the stable facility, ensuring cleanliness, safety and functionality
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of barns, stables, fences, arenas and other equestrian facilities
- Manage supply inventory, including feed, bedding, tack and equipment
- Develop and implement protocols for manure management, manure disposal and pasture rotation
- Monitor and maintain the quality of the footing in riding areas
- Interact with family and ensure their satisfaction
- Maintain accurate records of billing and payments
- Organise the oversee horse shows, clinics and other equestrian events
- Prepare and manage the stable budget, including forecasting and tracking expenses and revenues
- Monitor and control costs related to horse care, facility maintenance and other operational aspects
- Develop pricing structures for services offered by the stable
Requirements:
- Extensive knowledge of horse care, nutrition, health and horsemanship
- Experience in stable management or a related field, demonstrating leadership and organisational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, staff and vendors
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of equine safety guidelines and regulations
- Certification in equine management or related fields is an advantage
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Fluency in English
