We are seeking a Personal Literary Advisor & Discussion Partner, a highly intellectual and well-read individual who thrives in deep, meaningful discussions. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for literature, philosophy, history, and contemporary thought, who can read and analyse books at an advanced level and articulate complex ideas clearly.
The primary responsibility will be to read, summarise, and discuss a curated selection of books each month. The ideal candidate should be proficient in both English and Arabic, capable of delivering structured and insightful summaries, and comfortable engaging in high-level intellectual discussions. A background in library sciences, publishing, or cultural work is highly preferred.
This role offers a rare opportunity to blend academic and intellectual pursuits with practical application, shaping discussions on various literary and philosophical works.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and critically analyse 5-10 books per month (covering literature, history, philosophy, business, and contemporary topics).
- Provide detailed, well-structured summaries in both English and Arabic, capturing key insights, themes, and arguments.
- Identify and highlight significant passages, quotes, and concepts for deeper discussion.
- Track reading progress, and maintain a well-organised database of summaries and notes.
- Engage in high-level discussions about the books, offering unique interpretations and intellectual insights.
- Challenge ideas and explore different perspectives, fostering engaging and thought-provoking conversations.
- Help connect literary themes to contemporary issues, cultural developments, and personal interests.
- Maintain a curated reading list, recommending books based on literary and intellectual merit.
- Stay informed about current literary trends, publishing developments, and influential writers.
- Suggest and source books from various publishers, libraries, and cultural institutions.
- Research and propose additional reading materials that align with the individual’s intellectual pursuits.
Ideal Candidate:
- Fluent in both English and Arabic, with excellent reading comprehension and writing skills.
- Background in library sciences, publishing, cultural studies, literary analysis, or related fields.
- Passion for reading, intellectual debate, and literary criticism.
- Highly analytical, with the ability to synthesise complex ideas into concise, engaging summaries.
- Excellent organisational skills for tracking reading materials, notes, and discussion points.
- A natural curiosity and love for literature, with an ability to explore diverse topics.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build a meaningful intellectual connection.
