Job Title: Houseman

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: €40,000 – €60,000 gross per annum, depending on experience
Working Houses: Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (40 hours per week), with flexibility required during evenings and weekends based on the family’s presence
Travel: Occasional travel within France and internationally may be required
A private family with a fully staffed residence in Paris is seeking a professional, multi-skilled Houseman to join their household team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the property to the highest standards, supporting the General Manager and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations across the home. This is a long-term opportunity for someone discreet, capable, and service-oriented, with a strong background in private households.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Full and impeccable maintenance of the residence
- Full and impeccable maintenance of the residence
- Care and handling of art pieces and valuable objects
- General handyman duties: minor repairs, stock and alarm system management, basic technical assessments
- Receiving deliveries and greeting visitors while upholding household security protocols
- Grocery and supplementary shopping
- Preparation of breakfast in the absence of the usual staff member
- Providing formal and informal service during receptions
- Occasional driving duties
- Coordination and communication with the General Intendant and other domestic staff
- Adherence to health, hygiene, and safety standards
- Discretion and confidentiality regarding the family and household matters
- Flexibility to work within a rotating schedule alongside the household team
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Has a minimum of 3 years’ experience working within private households in a similar maintenance or houseman capacity
- Possesses excellent practical skills and a hands-on approach to property care and problem solving
- Is confident handling high-value items, including art and antiques
- Is highly organised, responsive, and able to manage tasks proactively
- Demonstrates flexibility, energy, and a calm demeanour, even under pressure
- Works well independently but thrives in a collaborative team environment
- Is discreet, trustworthy, and fully respectful of privacy and confidentiality
- Speaks fluent French and has excellent communication skills
- Holds a valid category B driving licence and is confident driving in Paris
- Has a clean criminal record (dated within the past 3 months)
